2015\16, Nitsa

‘Nitsa’  is a sculptural installation exhibited twice; once in 2015 at the BFA graduation exhibition at the Bezalel fine arts department, and again, as part of ‘Against Forgetting’, an exhibition curated by Mrs. Ellen Ginton, featuring both ‘Nitsa’ and works by Sivan’s deceased aunt, Nitsa Brezniak. In the installation, the artist attempts to recreate his deceased aunt’s presence - A person he knew only through her artwork and through what was recounted about her by family.

Along with a concrete cast and a large format print, the heart of the installation is a mechanism made of an industrial air suction unit, several chambers and a silicon cast of the artists mouth. As the machine sucks air, the mouth sounds a haunting whistle, which changes in volume according to a valve.
